Dear Editor,

I stand firmly in support of voting YES on Prop 67 and voting NO on Prop 65 on November 8th.

Over 150 cities and counties in California have passed bans or fees to regulate plastic bags, including most of our biggest cities. Most people in California are already living under a local plastic bag regulation. With such a threshold of communities moving away from the blight of single-use plastic bags, our elected representatives made the right decision in 2014 to adopt a statewide plastic ban.

That common-sense legislation is under attack from out of state money. Props 65 and 67 are on the ballot directly in response to the efforts of industry-funded lobbyists and representatives intruding on the democratic process in our state. We should uphold our rights as citizens to live in a clean environment, and we should vote to support our elected representatives who adopted a plastic bag ban in our best interests.

The plastic bag industry wants you to vote a certain way on these propositions. I say: vote for the best interests of California, not for the interests of plastic bag makers. Vote YES on Prop 67 and NO on Prop 65.

Thank you.

We should stand against them and instead vote to support clean waterways, clean streets, and local communities.
