Microplastics and Cardiovascular Disease Risk

This study investigates whether micro- and nanoplastics in the human body are linked to heart disease. Researchers studied plaque from patients with cardiovascular disease and found plastic particles inside some arterial deposits. They then followed patients over time and found that those with plastic particles in their arteries had a higher risk of serious events, such as heart attacks and strokes. The study highlights the need for more research on how microplastic exposure could contribute to heart disease long-term.
