Microplastics and One Health: Impacts on People, Animals and the Environment

Microplastic pollution is a growing environmental issue affecting ecosystems, wildlife and humans worldwide. While much of the existing research focuses on the direct toxicity of microplastics, this review highlights the importance of studying environmentally realistic conditions. The authors use a One Health approach, which recognizes the connections between environmental, animal, and human health, to evaluate the broader impacts of microplastic contamination. The review suggests that more research is needed to better understand both the direct and indirect effects of microplastics across these interconnected systems.
